Before we discuss the top five advantages and disadvantages of poly-cotton, let's discuss what poly-cotton is and why it is commonly used in the textile, apparel and fabric industries. Cotton and polyester blends are widely used in the consumer apparel industry and are found in abundance in retail outlets. The lighter poly-cotton blends are used in shirts and blouses, while the heavier ones are reserved for skirts, trousers and autumn clothing, all in various proportions. Blends are also used in commercial garments such as corporate uniforms and sports team uniforms; the 50/50 ratio is most popular in this industry as it strikes a balance between breathability and durability. Other common uses for polyester cotton include making pillows, bed linen, tablecloths and exhibition canvases from this fibre. As we have discussed, the main difference is that poly-cotton is usually a blend of 65% cotton and 35% polyester, but can also be a 50/50 blend - sometimes comparable to the popular 65/35 blend.
